Rated as one of the finest hotels in the UK and noted especially for its extraordinary high levels of service, Chewton Glen Executive Head Chef Luke Matthews “can’t say enough good things about Meiko”.
Matthews has been at the hotel for 20 years, sufficient time to see the best and worst of service from his dishwashing suppliers.
“In the past I have had to wait up to a week for an engineer to turn up (from another supplier). Any dishwashing machine will break down, but it is how well that is dealt with that is most important.
“I changed suppliers to Meiko after I saw their machines at Mosimann’s and Rayners Catering Hire – Gordon Rayner especially sang Meiko’s praises.
“But, for me, choosing a dishwashing supplier is about the whole service – support and back up is as crucial as choosing which brand.
“I find it amazing that I can phone Meiko’s MD Bill Downie and that he will pick up the call no matter what time of day. How many other MDs would do that?
“I know that Meiko will attend within a couple of hours and that they carry parts on their vans…if anything is going to break down in the kitchen, then Meiko is the one I want most.
“First time fix is crucial. If we lose the big plate machine (Meiko K200VPi rack transport dishwasher) then it is a disaster. But I know when the Meiko engineer calls, he will get it going. It sounds like it breaks down often, but actually it is once in a blue moon.
“The Meiko machines here are operating from 7.30 am to 1.30 am; they just go on and on. The only reason to change would be to get better energy and water consumption. That would be an easy decision if they were near their end of life, but they are not.
“We have replaced only one of the Meiko machines. A glasswasher was upgraded to an FV40.2G-GiO with reverse osmosis built in. The new one is infinitely better than the old one; now, there was nothing wrong with the old one, but this new one is just better!
“We only have one of the old supplier’s machines here now. It’s all about service these days.
“Now when I buy equipment, the first question I ask is ‘Who looks after the maintenance’.
“I would be the first to shout if something was not right, but with Meiko, the whole process is right. There is no other equipment I would put my name behind like this, with total confidence.”
Chewton Glen has a PPM (planned preventative maintenance) agreement with Meiko, which has guaranteed Chewton Glen a first time fix within 8-hours. There are now four Meiko glasswashing machines, one potwasher and the K200VPi rack transport dishwasher, which is fitted with a heat pump and low humidity drier that effectively reduces the connected load of the machine by an amazing 21.0kW while providing cooled air back into the working area.
A programme of planned maintenance ensures customers get the best out of their equipment in terms of energy efficiency, reliability and wash quality. All types of warewashing equipment are supported, even when this involves dealing with a mixture of manufacturer’s machines in addition to Meiko.
Meiko technical advisors will help plan a PPM schedule that meets the present and envisaged future workload of the catering operation. Programmes can be tailored either to suit daytime or out of hour’s attendance.
